I’m allergic to eggs. It’s a sad, sad truth, and it usually makes my breakfast experiences much less enjoyable than everyone else’s. But today I had one of the greatest breakfasts in LA.
French toast with brioche-pecan topping and vanilla whipped cream ($14). Just stop and think about that for a minute. It’s foodgasmic.
This and many other fantastic-sounding meals can be found at Square One dining on Fountain Ave. There was a 15 minute wait when we got there a bit before 11, but the line definitely got longer and by the time we got in I think there was a 25-30 minute wait time. But it is definitely worth it.
The restaurant itself was pretty incredible, as well. The menu is very hipster-urban, and there are additional menu items written on a chalkboard wall along one side of the restaurant. Intelligentsia coffee is served as espresso or pour-over, and the employees are all young and hip, minus the attitude.
Other food highlights at Square One are the pancakes with maple-enriched carmel sauce ($11.75) where ‘enriched’ means ‘chunks of bacon’, and the Breakfast Burrito with grilled cactus, eggs, and avocado ($10). Opt for the potatoes over the grits for the side.
All in all, a fantastic breakfast destination.
Wow, that sounds awesome!! What a great breakfast combination!
